As photographers, there are two landscapes available to us. There is an outer landscape, one that we all see. The other is the same outer landscape filtered through our eyes, minds, and hearts. This is our inner landscape, subjective and unique to the individual. It is our response to the world around us, what we see, and how we react. The outer landscape is objective and representational, whereas our inner landscape is a subjective self-expression of our relationship with the natural world. One we see, the other we feel. To quote Anais Nin, “We see things not as they are, we see things as we are.”
Designed for the experienced photographer who wants to grow artistically, the emphasis will be on the creative side of photography rather than the technical. Participants will be challenged to create images that go beyond the mere recording of actual appearances. Through the sharing of philosophies, photographic fieldwork, image reviews, and discussions, Chris will work with you to craft images that are both creative and self-expressive, revealing your unique inner landscape.
The beautiful and inspiring Thousand Islands region of upstate New York will serve as the backdrop for our exploration. Known to the indigenous people as the Garden of the Great Spirit, the granite shorelines and islands of the mighty St. Lawrence River, along with the abundant wetlands, forests, and fields of the surrounding area, provide a wealth of photographic opportunities. Join Chris as we spend three days creatively exploring our inner landscape.
I will help take your images to a new level. Our low instructor-to-participant ratio guarantees everyone significant one-on-one instruction in the field, and the beautiful settings will give each participant plenty of inspiration to explore their photographic vision.
